Mass ECAN Fall 2024 Series
This year’s Field Trips explore adaptation actions and nature-based solutions in response to inland flooding. These trips are organized by Mass ECAN, the MA Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program, the MA Division of Ecological Restoration, and local project partners.
FIELD TRIPS
Easthampton Field Trip -
9/5 at 10am - 1pm (rain date 9/12)
Join us to explore green infrastructure projects in a residential setting and learn about community engagement and maintenance. Stay for optional snack/networking time from 12pm-1pm.
Devens/Ayer Field Trip -
9/24 at 10am - 1pm (rain date 9/30)
Join us to explore a variety of nature-based solutions projects, including low-impact development techniques, pocket forests, and stream daylighting, across commercial, residential, and recreational sites. Learn how municipalities can incorporate nature-based solutions into all of their planning, development, and climate resilience efforts. Stay for optional lunch/networking time from 12 pm-1 pm.
North Branch Hoosic River Field Trip -
10/21 at 10am - 1pm (rain date 10/28)
Join us in visiting the Beaver Mills Dam and the former Briggsville Dam to learn about dam removal benefits, including flood mitigation, stream continuity, and fish passage. Explore how watershed-scale partnerships, community engagement, and the prioritization of climate justice are all essential parts in increasing resiliency. Stay for optional snack/networking time from 12pm-1pm.

West Boylston Field TriP -
11/12 at 10am - 1pm (rain date 11/13)
Join us to explore the Quinapoxet Dam removal project in construction alongside a rail trail. Learn about West Boylston's recent climate resilience planning and explore the co-benefits from this project, including for fisheries, flood resiliency, and water quality and control related to the Wachusett Reservoir.
